I adore Dumfries & Galloway in SW Scotland; the old-world charm, gentle rolling hills, the gorgeous, unspoilt coastline, and of course, the exceptional quality of light!
 
I was so lucky to be staying by the coast one cold, crisp winter when I witnessed an almost other-worldly sunset over the quiet Solway coast. There is virtually no light pollution in the area and the horizon lit up with deep ambers, siennas, molten gold and soft rose pinks. The shallow pools mirroring the silver blues of the sky. I had never seen the sky radiate so many luminous, rich hues! The whole scene was glowing.
 
Back in the studio I wanted to create an emotional response to that special and intimate experience. I don't just paint what I see, I paint what I feel when I'm there. It look layer upon layer of paint to create the luminous palette set against the craggy rocks, shadows and the remnants of the sun behind a uniform row of clouds.
 
My work is about capturing what makes a place special; its atmosphere, its energy, its quiet magic. I hope each piece brings a sense of that place into your home.
